Outreach Extensions’ New
Media Outreach Campaign, REENTRY, kicks off at Semi-annual SCUPE
Congress!
Outreach Extensions had the pleasure of participating in the March
2003 Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE) Congress
in Chicago. SCUPE was created in 1976 to meet the city's need for
experienced pastors with training in urban issues and systems.
For more than twenty-five years, SCUPE has partnered with churches,
academic institutions, denominations, and community agencies to
provide this training and experience. Held every two years in March,
SCUPE’s Congress on Urban Ministry brings together 800 participants
who confirm the power and influence of the urban church and explores
the impact of poverty and plenty on urban contexts: families, communities,
and systems. More than 75 workshops were presented to show best
practices, build skills, and provide analytic tools.
The Reentry National Media Outreach Campaign, which will bridge
across themes explored in previous campaigns with faith-based components,
like LEGACY, This Far by Faith, and A Justice That
Heals was introduced
to conference participants. The attendees were staggered by the
numbers of men and women leaving prison and returning to their
communities each year. Some members have already begun working
in prison and reintegration ministries, while others were eager
to learn more.
Flyers on the upcoming Reentry campaign were distributed,
detailing the PBS programs and series in the campaign, as well
as the resource materials that are in development for community
use. Guests were also encouraged to visit the Annie E. Casey Foundation
booth in the conference’s exhibit hall to retrieve more information
about the Making Connections Media Outreach Initiative and the
various ways in which they could be involved. At the booth, flyers
were distributed on This Far by Faith, programs on race
and diversity and Reentry. Conference guests were able to view
a revolving menu of MCMOI films, including Legacy of Faith,
Faith Into Action’s
outreach video, and God and the Inner City and Fatal
Peril: Manhood and Violence from the upcoming Reentry campaign.
Attendees were also able to leave their business cards to join
the email alert system for upcoming campaign additions, airdates,
and resource release timelines.
